3 Injured In South Bay Mall Shooting; Police Search For Suspects

Torrance police say the shooting at the Del Amo Fashion Center Tuesday night could be gang-related.

TORRANCE, CA — Three people were injured in a shooting at a Torrance mall and are expected to survive their injuries, police said Wednesday.

The shooting was reported at the parking lot south of BJ's at the Del Amo Fashion Center at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Mark Ponegalek of the Torrance Police Department.

The victims are ages 17 and older and were being treated for their injuries Wednesday at a hospital, Ponegalek said. Their names were not disclosed.

Detectives investigating this shooting as a possibly gang-related incident and not a random attack on a group of teenagers, Ponegalek said.

When officers arrived at the shooting Tuesday night there was a report of a carjacking and robbery near Dave & Busters, at the south end of the mall, police said.

The suspects from the shooting near BJ’s Restaurant fled south from the shooting area, carjacking and robbing a victim unrelated to the shooting, police said. The carjacking and robbery victim was not injured.

Officers did not locate any victims at the shooting scene and about 45 minutes later they were advised that three victims from the shooting were brought to a hospital, police said. One victim was transferred to Harbor General Hospital.

All victims were treated for gunshots wounds sustained during this incident, police said. No other victims related to this incident at this time were reported.

There were several suspects involved in this violent attack, police said.

"The suspects and the victim’s vehicle are still outstanding," police said. "However, there is no specific threat to the community or public at this time. Detectives responded to the scene and will be taking over the investigation."

Torrance police officers will be located at the Del Amo Mall during the investigation and holidays, police said.
