You're Whale-Comed To The 40th Annual Whale Of Day Festival

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — The Whale of a Day Festival returns this weekend to Rancho Palos Verdes for its 40th year, promising an exciting event filled with lots of activities for the community.

The free event will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the main grounds of the Pont Vicente Interpretive Center located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West.

Whale of a Day is meant to celebrate the Pacific Gray whale's migration from the Arctic seas to the waters of Baja California, according to event officials.

Activities available at the festival include whale watching from the bluffs, live entertainment, including puppet shows, food trucks, tours of the Point Vicente Lighthouse, and educational experiences from marine and wildlife organizations.

For the 40th anniversary, there will be a special exhibit featuring the history of the event, a coast-themed vendor fair curated by the Dreamers Market, and a community chalk art mural sponsored by the San Pedro YMCA, according to event officials.

Free parking and shuttle services will be available at the Ken Dyda Civic Center, located at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd.
