Chadwick School Upgrades Baseball, Softball Fields With Donation
The school's boys baseball, girls softball teams now play on completely renovated fields thanks to philanthropist Warren G. Lichtenstein.

PALOS VERDES, CA — Chadwick School’s boys baseball and girls softball teams now play on completely renovated fields thanks to philanthropist Warren G. Lichtenstein, founder and executive chairman of Steel Partners Holdings L.P.
The $1.5 million gift was given in August 2021 and the locations are now completed.
Lichtenstein marked his son’s spring 2021 graduation from Chadwick School with a charitable gift of $1.5 million, inspired by his long-time belief in the value of sports to help youth reach their potential both on and off the field, according to the school.

“Baseball was an integral part of my son’s educational experience during his 12 years at Chadwick,” said Lichtenstein, who also founded the youth sports organization Steel Sports.
“My goal is that these upgraded baseball and softball facilities will encourage more students to participate in sports as a means to learn life skills like teamwork, respect, integrity and commitment,” Lichtenstein said.

Now known as the Lichtenstein Family Field, the new field includes enhancements such as synthetic turf, renovated baseball and softball dugouts, softball backstops, baseball netting, a new scoreboard and fencing. Both teams, along with the soccer teams, received new uniforms.
“We are proud to partner with Warren Lichtenstein to improve the experience for our student-athletes in baseball and softball, and to continue to encourage leadership, excellence and teamwork on the playing fields and beyond,” said Tom Sheppard, Chadwick’s Interim Head of School. “We are very grateful to Warren Lichtenstein for his generosity.”
Chadwick earned its first Baseball Prep League championship in 1952. Through its character-building educational model, Chadwick has a proud history of growing successful athletic teams, winning various Prep League, CIF and State championships in recent years.
The Chadwick School was established in 1935. The private, K-12 co-educational day school is dedicated to developing global citizens with keen minds, exemplary character, self-knowledge and the ability to lead.
The campus is located on a 45-acre hilltop on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. More than 855 students from over 63 Southern California communities have chosen to call Chadwick "home."
