New Ordinance In Palos Verdes You Should Know About

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — A new ordinance for parking oversized vehicles or trailers will go into effect in Palos Verdes Estates beginning Jan. 1, 2022, city officials announced Tuesday.

No oversized vehicles or trailers exceeding 20 feet in length, 7 feet in width, or 8 feet in height on any street or alley within the city of Palos Verdes Estates without a permit could be cited or removed at the owner's expense, according to the new ordinance.

Residents who own an oversized vehicle or trailer must complete an application and return it to the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department. Residents must provide the following information in the application for the permit:

  • The name, address, phone number, and email address of the registered owner of designated Oversized Vehicle or Trailer.
  • The name, address, phone number, and email address of the applicant for the permit.
  • Proof of residency. Acceptable proof of residency must be current and must include the following: California Driver’s License or California Identification Card and one of the following: Property Tax Bill or Public Utility Bill (telephone bills are not acceptable).
  • The registration from the California Department of Motor Vehicles for the Oversized Vehicle or Trailer that shows the Oversized Vehicle or Trailer is registered in the City of Palos Verdes Estates;5. The license number, make, and model of designated Oversized Vehicle or Trailer.
  • The dates for which the permit is requested;7. The dates and duration of any and all Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits issued to the applicant within the immediately preceding ninety (90) calendar day period.
  • Additional information the Police Department may require.
  • The applicant must sign the application under penalty of perjury.

Anyone interested can apply using the PVE Oversized Vehicle Permit Application. After completing the application, the resident will receive an adhesive sticker for each vehicle to trailer, which should be displayed in the lower driver's side of the windshield or nearest window of the oversized vehicle so it's clearly visible from the exterior (placed on the left side) and street.

"The sticker is only issued for the vehicle or trailer registered to the residents of Palos Verdes Estates and is not transferable," city officials said.

Out-of-town visitors requesting a permit must complete an application and return it to the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department.

The out-of-town guest must provide the following on the application

  • The name, address, phone number, and email address of the registered owner of designated Oversized Vehicle or Trailer.
  • The name, address, phone number, and email address of the applicant for the permit.
  • The registration from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, or equivalent agency in another state, for the Oversized Vehicle or Trailer.
  • The name, address, phone number, and email address of the resident that is being visited.
  • The license number, make, and model of designated Oversized Vehicle or Trailer.
  • The dates for which the permit is requested.
  • The dates and duration of any and all Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits issued to the applicant during the current calendar year.
  • The dates and duration of any and all Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits issued to the resident being visited during the current calendar year.
  • Additional information the Police Department may require.
  • The applicant must sign the application under penalty of perjury.

After completing the application, the out-of-town visitor will then receive an adhesive sticker for each vehicle or trailer that shall be displayed in the lower driver’s side of the windshield or nearest window of the oversized vehicle for which it has been issued so that it is clearly visible from the exterior of the vehicle.

Permits shall be displayed on the side of the Trailer for which it has been issued so that it is visible from the street, which is usually the left side of the Trailer.

An oversized vehicle parking permit will be valid for a period not to exceed 24 hours. An Oversized Vehicle Parking Permit will be valid from noon one day until 11:59 a.m. the next day.

Upon expiration of the permit, the applicant may apply for and be granted additional parking permits. An applicant may request no more than three consecutive permits (a total of 72 hours of parking to load and unload) at one time.

No person or trailer can receive more than 24 parking permits within any 90-day period and no more than 96 parking permits in any calendar year.

This ordinance goes into effect on January 1, 2022. The City has determined a 30-day grace period will be implemented at that time and no citations will be issued for one month.
