Rise in Depressed Students Have Palos Verdes on Notice

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District is looking into the problem at various grade levels.

PALOS VERDES, CA — An uptick in the number of students with suicidal thoughts have Palos Verdes educators on notice, according to the Daily Breeze.

Counselors are seeing a serious increase in the number of depressed students at both Peninsula High and nearby Palos Verdes High schools, the Daily Breeze reported.

"I think we have a crisis here," Peninsula High principal Mitzi Cress told the Daily Breeze.

A new student wellness center was opened Wednesday at Palos Verdes High to deal with this problem. Both schools have also instituted several programs to address the issue, according to the Daily Breeze. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District is also looking into the problem at various grade levels, the Daily Breeze reported.
