South Bay School Earns 2024 National Blue Ribbon Award

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — Palos Verdes High School was awarded National Blue Ribbon Award status, a prestigious honor given by the U.S. Department of Education.

The honor is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. It also validates the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in attaining scholastic achievement.

"It is an incredible honor to have one of our schools recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School," said Dr. Devin Serrano, Superintendent of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. “This achievement represents the high-quality education that exists not only at Palos Verdes High School, but also across all the schools in our district. Most of all, this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our outstanding students, teachers, staff, and administrators.”

PVHS was recognized in the Exemplary High-Performing Schools category, which makes it one of California's highest-performing schools as measured by assessments or nationally normed tests, according to a U.S. Department of Education statement.

PVHS is among 356 other schools that were also awarded America's top honor for individual schools by US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona on Sept. 23.

"The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools," Cardona said. "The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities."
