RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — An unlicensed 18-year-old suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested Saturday morning when she crashed a car into a backyard pool in Rancho Palos Verdes, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The South Gate woman was heading home from a beach party and speeding along Hawthorne Boulevard near San Nicholas Drive in the opposite lanes of traffic around 1:30 a.m. when she slammed into a median, the LASD's Lomita Station said in a statement on social media Tuesday.

Deputies say the impact propelled the car toward the southbound lanes of traffic and into a residential fence along Lomo Drive.

The woman, according to the LASD, has since been medically cleared and arrested on suspicion of DUI and driving without a license. Deputies found she had a .155% blood alcohol concentration (BAC) nearly four hours after the crash.

"Let this be your reminder: With summer parties and late nights around the corner, please don’t drink and drive," the LASD said. "Always have a plan, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare service."
