This interactive map designed by the online team at the WNYC radio station shows the average commute time by ZIP code across the country.

The average commuter in Palos Verdes spends more time in the car driving between home and work every day than commuters in surrounding cities, according to the above interactive map designed by the WNYC radio station.

The WNYC map shows how one-way daily commute times can vary by a minute or two depending on the neighborhood.

For those in Rancho Palos Verdes (ZIP code 90275), the average commute is 32.9 minutes; those in Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield (ZIP code 90274) have an average commute of 32.4 minutes. Census figures show that about 8.1 percent of U.S. workers have commutes of 60 minutes or longer—known as long commutes—and nearly 600,000 full-time workers had "megacommutes" of at least 90 minutes and 50 miles.

The average one-way daily commute for workers across the country is 25.5 minutes, and one in four commuters leave their county to work.
