1. Helen Putnam Regional Park

A compact six‑mile trail network through rolling oak woodlands and grassy hills; options range from easy paved loops to moderate ridge climbs. You’ll enjoy panoramic views over the Petaluma Valley, with wildlife sightings including deer and raptors, and trails shared with equestrians and cyclists.


2. Shollenberger Park

5. Olompali State Park (Mt. Burdell)

Varied trails climb Mt. Burdell through mixed woods to an open summit with views of the valley and river; routes range from moderate to challenging. Hikers enjoy the historical Miwok sites, plus the Burdell Mansion ruin, making it a great half-day adventure.


6. Taylor Mountain Regional Park

📍2080 Kawana Terrace, Santa Rosa (~30 minutes from Petaluma, CA)

A tough five‑mile loop with 1,100 ft of gain climbing to a 1,430‑ft summit with exposed grasslands and oak woodland provides a panoramic overlook of Santa Rosa Plains. Challenging but well‑rewarded, and less crowded than lower-elevation parks.
