• Animal Rights Activist Says She Is Held In Cell 23 Hours A Day (patch.com) — Petaluma residents are watching closely as animal rights activist Zoe Rosenberg serves a 30-day jail sentence stemming from taking chickens from the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. Supporters say her serious medical conditions make near-total isolation in the Sonoma County jail dangerous, and they’re pressuring Gov. Gavin Newsom for a pardon while broader concerns grow over the jail’s contracted health care provider.
   

• Keller Street parking garage in downtown Petaluma gets new security cameras (pressdemocrat.com) — Downtown drivers should know the Keller Street parking garage now has new security cameras, brighter lighting, added ADA spaces and ramps, and clearer signage to improve safety and access. The city and Petaluma Police Department are also stepping up patrols after past incidents, aiming to make this busy garage between Western and Washington a safer, more welcoming place to park.
   

• For 20 years, this UC Berkeley program has helped students who've been in foster care succeed (berkeley.edu) — A UC Berkeley support program called Hope Scholars has spent 20 years helping students who experienced foster care or housing insecurity succeed in college and beyond. One current peer adviser grew up in Petaluma, showing how local foster youth can reach Cal, find community, and become first-generation college graduates with financial, academic, and emotional support.
