Driver Accused Of DUI In Petaluma Hit-And-Run Crash
A witness reported that occupants of a vehicle fled after crashing into a traffic pole, and the driver was found nearby, police said.
PETALUMA, CA — Police in Petaluma on Saturday arrested a man on suspicion of a hit-and-run DUI crash. Francisco Mendez, 24, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license and threatening a public official, according to the Petaluma Police Department.
Officers responded at 12:01 a.m. Saturday to a report of a hit-and-run crash at Fourth and C streets.

Officers located the occupants a short distance from the crash and identified Mendez as the driver of the vehicle.
Police said Mendez, who is on active DUI probation and was driving with a suspended license, admitted to driving and consuming alcohol.

Police arrested him after determining he was under the influence of alcohol.
His preliminary blood-alcohol content was .16 percent, according to police.
He was also arrested on suspicion of threatening officers with bodily harm.
