'Habitual' Reckless Driver Arrested, Car Impounded: Police

Several people called the police to report an Infiniti G35 driver doing doughnuts and burnouts in the roadway.

PETALUMA, CA —A habitual reckless driving offender was arrested by Petaluma police and his car was impounded for 30 days, Petaluma police said.

Dispatchers at the Petaluma Police Department received numerous calls shortly before noon Tuesday about an Infiniti G35 driver doing doughnuts and burnouts in at B and Pierce streets.

As officers headed that way, dispatchers informed them the Infiniti driver was traveling away from the scene.

Another witness reported seeing the Infiniti driver park on McNear Avenue and go into a residence there.

Officers found the car on McNear and contacted the driver, 18-year-old James Erickson of Petaluma, at the residence.

A witness identified Erickson as the person they saw driving the Infiniti and driving recklessly, Petaluma police Sgt. Mario Giomi said. Officers also determined Erickson was arrested earlier this year for the same offense.

Erickson was taken to Sonoma County jail where he was booked on suspicion of reckless driving.

Pursuant to California law, his car was towed and impounded for 30 days.

"We appreciate the community members who assisted in reporting the incident while it was occurring and additionally the assistance in locating the vehicle and driver," Giomi said.
