Here's Why Paul Thomas Was Shouted Out As A Petaluma Local Hero

PETALUMA, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

What does the local hero do?

Paul continually gives of himself to save the precious lives of the most vulnerable, at-risk dogs only waiting to die in shelters. Paul drives untold miles often on a weekly basis to transport these souls to safety. Because of Paul, hundreds of dogs are able to not only survive, but go on to live full, safe and happy lives with their forever families!

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

Paul sets himself apart even from the most dedicated animal rescue volunteers. He makes himself available at a moment's notice to save a dog’s life. He will travel 6-8 hours to pick up the dog and safely transport him another 6-8 hours to a rescue that will carefully select the perfect person/family for this dog. Paul then returns home and thoroughly cleans & sterilizes his entire van and all the equipment used (i. e. crates, leashes) for his next save. Paul volunteers his time, the fuel and frequent maintenance of his old van to continue to save these precious lives. Paul is beloved in the rescue community throughout the state and up through Oregon.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

His unconditional spirit of love and generosity focused solely on saving the lives of dogs destined to die in shelters.
