SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A fuel tanker truck overturned Thursday night on state Highway 1 near Timber Cove, but its 4,800 gallons of gasoline was off-loaded and pumped into a transfer tanker, county officials said. The Timber Cove Fire Protection District and Sonoma County Fire Division's hazardous materials response team responded arrived around 7:30 p.m., according to Permit Sonoma spokeswoman Maggie Fleming.

The fuel transfer, known as a stinger operation, entailed puncturing the overturned tank and transferring fuel to the awaiting recovery vessel, Fleming said.

No injuries or environmental damage were reported. The crash closed Highway 1 until around 8 a.m. Friday.
