Sonoma County Braces For Rare September Storm: NWS

Up to 3 inches of rain is expected to fall in parts of Sonoma and Marin counties, according to the National Weather Service.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A rare September storm is expected to bring rain the Bay Area desperately needs, and the best and brightest forecasters are as surprised as you.

“We’ve actually got rain in the forecast, and it’s an amazing thing,” NWS Meteorologist Brian Garcia said in a video the agency posted on social media.

The North Bay is expected to see the heaviest rainfall, with the NWS forecasting models estimating 2-3 inches of the wet stuff is expected to fall along the Sonoma Coast and in Marin around Mount Tamalpais.

The South Bay, East Bay and Peninsula regions are expected to see between a half-inch up to 2 inches of rainfall.

The NWS has not yet issued an advisory but the agency is urging motorists to drive with caution as the first rainfall in months is expected to produce slippery road conditions.
