Police say the shootout was between the armed victim, a Pleasant Hill man, and the suspect who tried to rob him.

PLEASANT HILL, CA — A second man has died from a shooting in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday that police say was prompted by an attempted robbery that led to the suspect and victim shooting each other.
Officers responded shortly before noon Tuesday to reports of a shooting near Twinbridge Circle near Longbrook Way.
Police found two men with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where one, 63-year-old Peter Popovich of Pleasant Hill, died Tuesday.

The second man, identified as 21-year-old resident San Pablo resident Trevon Davis, later also died of his injuries, police said Wednesday.
Investigators say Popovich worked in the legal cannabis industry. The company he worked for sells packaging materials for the legal distribution and sales of cannabis. Earlier in the day, Popovich worked as a delivery driver to other cannabis distributors.

Police say Popovich was likely targeted for robbery by Davis and at least one other suspect while he was standing near his van parked on Twinbridge Circle.
Both the suspects and Popovich were armed, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The other suspect fled the scene and police haven't released any description of the person.
Popovich had a concealed carry permit and used his own gun in the shootout.
Witnesses said they saw a vehicle fleeing the scene but a description of the vehicle was not immediately available.
