Injured Heritage High Student Flown To Hospital
The student, a 15-year-old boy, was hit in the back of the head with a 12-pound shot put ball, fire officials said.

BRENTWOOD, CA —A 15-year-old boy was injured Wednesday afternoon at a high school in Brentwood when he was hit in the back of the head with a 12-pound shot put ball, officials with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said. The boy, whose name won't be released because he is a youth, was struck when he was on an athletic field at Heritage High School at 101 American Ave. before firefighters were sent to the school at 4:28 p.m.
Battalion Chief Jeff Burris said the boy was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek because he was hit in the back of the head and because of how old he was, but Burris did not say what the boy's condition
was.
Battalion Chief Ross Macumber said the boy was awake and alert when firefighters arrived.

Macumber said the injury did not appear to be a malicious act.
