Japanese Market, Restaurant Plaza Opening In East Bay
Osaka Marketplace plans to open a 42,000-square-foot "grocerant" combining a full Japanese grocery store and several small restaurants.
PLEASANT HILL, CA — Pleasant Hill will soon become a regional destination for Japanese cuisine thanks to the opening of Osaka Marketplace, a Fremont-based Japanese marketplace that announced it will be opening a location downtown.
The Pleasant Hill location, which will open in mid-2026 at the former location of Orchard Hardware at 155 Crescent Plaza, will be much more than a simple supermarket, according to a post from the city of Pleasant Hill. It will be a “grocerant:” a mix of a grocery store and several small restaurants spread out over the garden center portion of the former hardware store. Guests will enjoy semi-outdoor dining from several small eateries offering sushi, ramen, chicken karaage, and bento boxes.
The grocery portion of the 42,000-square-foot site will offer a large selection of authentic Japanese groceries, fresh produce, seafood, ready-to-eat meals and rare imported foods and foods.

Osaka Marketplace opened in Fremont in 2021, and is set to open a 35,000-square-foot waterfront retail space in Foster City, according to a report from SFGate. It joins a number of large Asian markets in the East Bay. Korean supermarkets Mega Mart and H Mart are set to open in Dublin, though the exact timing remains unknown.
