Martinez Refinery Again Rings in the School Year During an Operation School Bell Clothing Event!
Students need to feel comfortable in their attire if learning is to take place.

On Wednesday afternoon, October 8, students from four elementary schools in the Martinez Unified School District and one elementary school in the Mount Diablo Unified School District, 36 in total, arrived at Burlington, Pleasant Hill with their parents to participate in an Operation School Bell® clothing event. Five employees from Martinez Refinery joined the Operation School Bell volunteers.
As with previous shopping sprees, each student received a slap bracelet for identification and security purposes. After each shopper deliberated as to what was this year’s “look,” four Operation School Bell volunteers helped them add their totals before they proceeded to checkout.
It is probable that when these 36 students headed for home, each was filled with pride and an eagerness to wear as many of their purchases as soon as possible. At a deeper level, it is a known fact that when children feel good about their attire, they are more attentive to the learning task.
