Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is pleased to announce it is expanding its current focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). In July 2020, MOW Diablo Region established a cross-departmental diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. The mission of the DEI committee is to incorporate a focus on racial, gender, LGBTQ+, ageism, ableism, and other equity issues into workplace policies and training, hiring practices, community engagement, and access. "We are committed to building equitable approaches in the workplace and our services to better support our employees and clients," says DEI Committee Chair Shanti Peterson, MOW Diablo Region’s Development Manager.

One year later, the committee is continuing its efforts by providing DEI training to employees. It has also been recognized nationally by Meals on Wheels America who invited Peterson to present on MOW Diablo Region’s DEI initiative to its National Membership. Additionally, Health and Wellness Division Manager Cynthia Black recently earned a certificate from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace program of the University of South Florida Muma College of Business.

"Our goal is to continue to grow and evolve while providing equitable services to the community as we lift up diverse voices to make our work stronger," says MOW Diablo Region Executive Director Caitlin Sly.
