2 Pleasanton Restaurants Named Best In East Bay By SF Chronicle
The two restaurants were also listed on The Chronicle's 'Top Tri-Valley Restaurants' and 'Top South Indian & South Asian Restaurants.'
PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton is becoming a serious contender in regional international cuisine, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. Two of its restaurants, which feature diverse offerings from India, Malaysia, and Singapore, were named as “Top East Bay Restaurants” by The San Francisco Chronicle.
Curry Leaves Bistro, a Malaysian restaurant The Chronicle also named one of the “Top Tri-Valley Restaurants” in August, was appreciated for bringing a cuisine unfamiliar to many Americans to the area. The restaurant on 6003 W. Las Positas Boulevard was founded during the pandemic by Jai Kandayah, who missed the tastes of his native Malaysia. “Curry Leaves Bistro aims to bring the unique and authentic flavors of Malaysia, giving customers a homey, nostalgic, and one-of-a-kind dining experience,” the restaurant said on its website.
Guests can enjoy Malaysian decor, and seriously tasty dishes like the signature Nasi Kandar with chicken, fish, rice and eggs; or Nasi Lemak, the national dish of Malaysia that offers rice steamed in coconut milk, with pieces of cucumber, crispy anchovies, roasted peanut and a hard-boiled egg.

ID Café, a South Indian dosa restaurant inside the Stoneridge Mall that also has locations in Antioch and Newark, was also named as one of The Chronicle’s Top Indian and South Asian Restaurants in the Bay Area in September. Restaurant owners said they were inspired by the food carts of Southern India to “recreate a stuffed Dosa with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside balanced by juiciness on the inside,” and sourced ingredients from all over India to achieve that.
Guests can enjoy all varieties of the crepe made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice: from fillings of chili cheese to buttery paneer to assorted vegetables and onions to spiced chicken. Guests can also enjoy treats like vada, a donut-shaped South Indian fritter, to tikka fries to masala chai teas and Indian sodas.
