City Camps For Kids, Teens Open

The spring holidays are quickly approaching for Pleasanton students, and there  are plenty of openings at camps being held over the weeklong vacation.

The City of Pleasanton has vacancies in four spring break programs: a day camp for elementary-school students and three sports programs for teenagers.

Here is a list of the programs broken down by age:

Exploring Nature

The City of Pleasanton offers “A Day with the Naturalist” camp for ages 5 to 11 that offers field studies using the tools of naturalists.

This day camp is offered on April 22 only – a holiday for Pleasanton students –  from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The cost is $39 for residents and $43 for non-residents.

Volleyball

A four-day intermediate volleyball camp is open to 12- to 14-year-olds on April 4-7  at .

Participants will learn the fundamentals and mechanics of volleyball and build their playing skills during game time.

The cost is $120 for residents and $132 for non-residents.

Ping Pong

A weeklong table tennis camp — daylong, morning or afternoon — has vacancies for 13- to 17-year-olds. It will be April 4-8 at Pleasanton Middle School.

The daylong program goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $380 for residents and $418 for non-residents.

The morning session is 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.,  afternoon session is 12:30 to 3 p.m. Both programs cost $250 for residents and $275 for non-residents.

Tennis

Tennis camps are offered two different weeks in April for children between 4 and 15 years of age at .

April 4-8 and April 25-29, two separate morning tennis camps will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. One is for ages 4 to 6, the other for ages 6 to 15. 

An afternoon session also will be available for ages 6- 15 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The session for ages 4-6 is $150 for residents and $160 for non-residents. The cost for ages 6-15  is $163 for residents and $180 for non-residents.

 Each spring camp had about a dozen openings as of Thursday.

Spring holiday programs are popular and have been around for decades, according to Ian Anderson, recreation supervisor with the City of Pleasanton. 

“It’s an alternative to day care, so they can actually get some stimulation,” he said.  “They get to go outdoors and they get to explore. … or they can pick up a skill.”
