Las Positas men's basketball team lands No. 5 seed for 3C2A NorCal Playoffs - same seed as 2022 for Elite 8 run

The Las Positas men's basketball team had a big regular season by the numbers:
- 24 wins
- 10 Coast-North conference victories.
- 20-0 start to the season.
- 4 all-conference picks.
- No. 1 state ranking over a stretch.
Now the Hawks are looking for another great ride with the number 5. They are the No. 5 seed in the 3C2A NorCal Regional playoffs.
The Hawks (24-4), who received a first-round bye, will open at home on Saturday night against the winner of Columbia and Siskiyous in Round 2.
Interestingly, Las Positas also had the No. 5 seed in 2021-22 when it advanced to the State Elite 8 for the first time. The Hawks beat Columbia in Round 3 that year to advance to the State quarterfinals.
"Hopefully that seed will be a lucky number for us again this year," Las Positas head James Giacomazzi said.
Giacomazzi has no complaints with his team's seeding this time.
"Overall, I don't have a problem with how the bracket turned out because all of the reps worked hard and followed the process," he said. "…There are a lot of good teams in the field this year, so you're gonna have to play your best basketball to advance."
The Hawks finished the regular season splitting games this past week, routing De Anza 96-67 at home on Sophomore Night and dropping a cliffhanger at Skyline 77-74.
Las Positas was rewarded for its fine conference season with four all-Coast-North selections.
A trio of sophomore guards — Elijah Mobley, Sterling McClanahan, and Jorren Edmonds — were first-team All-Conference selections, and sophomore guard Eliot Mobley made honorable mention.
Edmonds, a Washington High-Fremont graduate, made the All Defensive Team.
McClanahan led the way against De Anza with 28 points (9-10 on free throws). Edmonds had 14 points, and Jaden Woodard had 13.
Elijah Mobley had 20 points against Skyline in a largely even game.
