PLEASANTON, CA — Gina Anderson, the current chief of the Newark Police Department, will serve as the interim police chief of the Pleasanton Police Department, the city announced Thursday. Anderson will assume the position May 3, following the retirement of PPD Chief David Swing. She will serve in the role as the city looks for its next permanent chief.

Anderson started her career as a community service officer in Davis in 1992, and was sworn in as an officer in 1993. She was promoted to sergeant in 2002. In 2006, she was hired as a lieutenant for the Citrus Heights Police Department. She was promoted to commander in 2013 and assistant chief of police in 2018.

In 2020, Anderson was appointed Newark’s chief of police. As chief, she helped implement two strategic plans for the department, which involved using new technology like a comprehensive camera program and new computer analytics for better crime analysis. She also implemented an employee wellness program centered on mental and physical health.
