Jim's Country Style Restaurant Owner Killed In Mexico: Reports

Jim Goff was killed at the Baja 1000 off-road race when a truck lost control and drove into a crowd, according to reports.

PLEASANTON, CA — James “Jim” Goff, a Livermore resident who owns Jim’s Country Style Restaurant in Pleasanton, was one of two people killed by a truck at the Baja 1,000 off-road race in Mexico, Pleasanton Weekly confirmed.

On Thursday, an orange trophy truck driver awaiting inspection accelerated and then lost control, causing the truck to move forward, according to reports from CBS-San Diego and Road and Track. The truck injured a total of four and killed two, according to the reports. The four victims were taken to a nearby hospital, and two victims, including Goff, died hours later.

“The incident was due to the imprudence of a member of a competing team, which is why the vehicle was confiscated and the person responsible was arrested," Juan Tintos, a representative of race organizer SCORE International, told CBS-8. "We are working to ensure that the injured receive all the necessary medical attention.”

Goff’s son Dustin confirmed his father’s identity in a statement to Pleasanton Weekly. “The Goff family is overwhelmed with grief but are comforted by the love and support of family, friends and the community that Jim loved so dearly,” he said. “Because this is an extremely difficult time for the Goff family, we ask for privacy and prayers.”

Goff founded Jim’s Country Style Restaurant at 5400 Sunol Boulevard in 1994, according to The Weekly. Weekly readers often named the restaurant as one of the best breakfast spots in the region.
