Las Positas Men Too Much For Gavilan

Hawks score five goals in the second half in blowout

Freshman forward Natneal Tesfay had two goals and an assist as the Las Positas men’s soccer team walloped visiting Gavilan 5-0 on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Hawks — ranked 15th in the Oct. 14 CCCSIA state poll — earned their 10th win of the season with a balanced offense. Four players contributed to the scoring.
Arteen Arianmanesh notched two assists. Tesfay earned his first points of the season. Jose Valencia had a goal and an assist.

Las Positas (10-2-3, 3-2-2), riding a three-game unbeaten streak after dropping two tough ones on the road, at Evergreen Valley and De Anza, entered the week in third place in the Coast-South.

The Hawks drew with host West Valley 1-1 on Oct. 10 — a notable result against a quality opponent —and CCSF 0-0 at home on Oct. 14.

Against Gavilan, Tesfay set off a five-goal eruption in the second half scoring in the 49th minute off a Valencia assist. Valencia made it 2-0 off an Alejandro Ramirez assist in the 58th minute. Hadi Jaber continued the scoring onslaught in the 68th with a goal off an Arianmanesh assist. Hakuto Kremer and Tesfay rounded out the scoring.

Against West Valley, Ramirez scored the Hawks’ lone goal off an Alexis Gutierrez assist in the 32nd minute. Ramirez has seven goals and four assist for 18 points this season. He is No. 2 in the Coast-South in goals and total points. He has four goals and an assist in conference play.

Arianmanesh leads the Coast-South in assists with seven and is tied for sixth in the state.

Las Positas will host district-rival Chabot at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
