Playoff bound, times two!
The Las Positas College men’s and women’s soccer teams both earned berths in the 3C2A NorCal Regional Playoffs for the third straight year.
It’s becoming standard stuff, excellence in Andy Cumbo’s flourishing programs.
“Both teams have covered a lot of ground this season and we’re excited for more,” said Cumbo, head coach for both teams.
The LPC men (11-7-4) received the No. 17 seed and will travel to No. 16 San Joaquin Delta (13-6-3) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in Round 1. The winner will travel to No. 1 seed Evergreen Valley (15-2-4) on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The LPC women (8-9-3) advanced to the playoffs for an impressive ninth straight season and earned an 18th seed. The Hawks will travel to No. 15 Feather River (12-6-2) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Round 1. The winner will travel to No. 2 Folsom Lake (18-1-2) on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Round 2.
Here’s a quick look at the two LPC teams:
MEN’S SOCCER
The Hawks finished the season well last week, with a 10-0 romp over Gavilan and come-from-behind 2-2 draw with Hartnell — a quality result against a team seeded seventh in the playoffs.
LPC’s Saul Tecle has enjoyed a sensational season. He finished the regular season tied atop the state in goals scored with 27 in 20 games.
Tecle poured in four goals against Gavilan. Cooper Kennedy and Lenni Hertwig scored against Hartnell.
Frank Hinostroza is No. 2 on the team in total points with 29 (8 g, 9 a). Hertwig has 19 points (8 g, 3 a).
