Las Positas Soccer Teams Gain Honors
Seven Hawks women, four LPC men picked to all-conference team after successful seasons

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Las Positas College women’s soccer team was rewarded for its fine season with seven players being selected to the all-conference team.Sophomore midfielders Danielle Castro (Granada graduate) and Irie O’Donnell (Dougherty Valley) made the first team. Freshman goalkeeper Mia Lemus (San Leandro) and freshman defender Grace Toney (Dublin) made the second team. A trio of freshmen were honorable mention selections: forward Nadia Barron Santiago (American Indian HS), midfielder Kaitlyn Lemus (Foothill) and defender Britney Truscott (Redwood).The Hawks, who finished 13-4-6 overall and 8-1-3 in the Coast-North, fell to host Santa Rosa 1-0 on Nov. 18 in Round 1 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs. Despite the tough loss on a goal in the 49th minute, the Hawks were an impressive 7-2-1 down the stretch. They were among for teams with at least eight wins in conference.Hawks head coach Andy Cumbo gave his team high marks for the season, describing the Hawks as “talented, competitive, team oriented, and a real pleasure to work with.”

The Las Positas College men’s soccer team earned four spots on the all-conference team, paced by first-team selections Adrian Denoncourt (Dublin graduate), a sophomore midfielder, and Luigi Castillo (Hayward), a sophomore defender. Two freshman midfielders made the second team: Jayden Nguyen (Dublin) and Eamon Fahkri (Dublin). The Hawks (13-8-2, 7-5-1 Coast-South) surged down the stretch, going 5-1 in the final six conference games, to nail down a playoff spot.Las Positas fell to host West Valley 3-0 in Round 1 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.During a highly rewarding season, Hawks head coach Andy Cumbo loved the quality he saw from his men’s squad, describing it as “probably the best team I’ve had here.”
