PLEASANTON, CA — Calvin Henry Fries, 33, has been arrested following a high-speed pursuit that started on Pleasanton city streets and ended after the suspects allegedly went the wrong way on northbound Interstate Highway 680 and caused a traffic collision early Wednesday, according to Pleasanton police.

The pursuit started at about 12:05 a.m. when an officer attempted to pull a white Ford F-150 over for moving and equipment violations at Sunol Boulevard and Arlington Drive, police said.

The car fled onto northbound I-680 via the Sunol onramp, police said. The driver committed several traffic violations, at one point going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-680, and at which point officers terminated the pursuit, according to Sgt. Steven Ayers.

Soon after, the suspects ditched the vehicle on the freeway and a northbound vehicle struck it, Ayers said. The driver of the vehicle that struck the suspected pursuit vehicle was uninjured.

When it was safe, officers entered southbound I-680 and found the car a mile south of where it entered. A Pleasanton Police Department K-9 searched the scene and found Fries. Nobody else was found, but the officer who was pursuing the suspect's vehicle believed there to be more than one person inside.

All lanes in both directions of Interstate Highway 680 were closed as the California Highway Patrol and Pleasanton police investigated the scene. All lanes were cleared at 2:19 a.m. after the closure was in effect at 12:36 a.m.

Fries was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of two felony charges of evading police and disregarding safety and driving on the wrong side of the street, plus misdemeanor charges of reckless driving on a highway and resisting arrest, jail records show.
