Pleasanton City Council Approves Purchase of Land for $4.2 Million

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton City Council on Tuesday night approved the purchase of 3.18 acres of land for $4.2 million. The property, which has been owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission since 1930, is two lots adjacent to one another at 401 and 403 Bernal Ave., city officials said. The council voted unanimously to purchase the land.

"We're very excited to have this property, which we have had our eye on for some time," City Manager Nelson Fialho said in a statement released by the city. "The timing couldn't be better given that we are at the beginning of an important downtown planning update, which will define the future of how our downtown looks and feels for the next generation."

Officials said the land sits in the heart of downtown Pleasanton. The land is currently designated for public and institutional uses within the city's General Plan, which allows for such uses as libraries and
public parking, officials said.
