Pleasanton To Consider Selling Amador Theater
The council will vote on whether to sell the theater to PUSD in order to fund repairs.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to transfer ownership of the Amador Theater on the Amador Valley High School campus from the city of Pleasanton to the Pleasanton Unified School District.
The city has owned the theater since 1988, and is responsible for ongoing facility repair, custodial services, and more, according to a staff report. The theater currently needs extensive repairs, and PUSD recently passed Measure I, a $395 million bond for construction and renovations.
Per the 1988 agreement between the PUSD and the city, PUSD can repurchase the theater from the city for $100 if the city ever stops managing the theater, or in 2038, fifty years after the agreement. The district hopes to complete the repair using Measure I funds, and the city said it could save a total of roughly $73,000 per year on maintenance and staff. The city said it hopes to devote its resources to the Firehouse Arts Center instead.
