Pleasanton Hires Two Experienced Police Officers

Austin Dement joins the force from the Santa Cruz Police Department and Robert Palma arrives from the San Leandro Police Department.

PLEASANTON, CA —The Pleasanton Police Department has announced the hiring of two experienced lateral officers: Austin Dement and Robert Palma.

According to the PPD, Dement has worked for the Santa Cruz Police Department since 2018, where he was recognized for an outstanding number of DUI arrests.

Dement holds an associate degree in criminal justice from San Joaquin Delta College.

Palma joins the force in Pleasanton from the San Leandro Police Department.

A graduate of the 158th academy class at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Palma began his law-enforcement career in 2007 as a campus safety officer at Biola University.

Palma holds an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from Cerritos Community College.

"Community support plays a crucial role in attracting qualified individuals, such as officers Dement and Palma, to Pleasanton. Their experience in this profession enriches our level of service," said David Swing, chief of police for the PPD.
