Man Dies After Being Trapped Inside Pleasanton Fire, Wife Escapes
A man was trapped inside a mobile home engulfed in flames. Firefighters trying to reach him had to retreat due to a dangerous flashover fire

PLEASANTON, CA — An elderly man died and his wife was injured after their Pleasanton mobile home caught fire Wednesday night, according to the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department and other reports.
The fire started just before midnight on Wednesday at the Hacienda Mobile Home Park on the 3200 block of Vineyard Avenue, according to the department. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke. Initial reports indicated that one person was trapped inside, while another was able to escape.
Firefighters said that despite aggressive efforts to combat the fire, a “flash over” - when a contained fire gets so hot that nearly everything around it bursts into flames at the same time - forced crews to retreat.

“The captain as soon as he came in felt a lot of heat through his turnouts and his protective equipment, but he continued to make that push in as far as he could until conditions deteriorated on him and he removed his crew to safety,” Battalion Chief Eric Roach told NBC.
Eventually, crews stopped the fire from the outside, which allowed them to re-enter and fully put out the fire, according to LPFD. The fire did not spread to any neighboring homes, according to KTVU.
