PLEASANTON, CA— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Mary Jane Manuel who nominated Brigit Kienhofer of Pleasanton.

What makes this mom extra special?

Brigit selflessly continues her son Scottie's legacy of "bringing love, joy, and comfort to newly diagnosed pediatric cancer patients and their families." She, along with Scottie's Gift Foundation and team "provides families with personalized gift baskets to help brighten their darkest and most difficult days. Most baskets will be filled with a tablet, age-appropriate gifts, or gift cards for both the child and their families" receiving treatment at Children's Hospital Oakland UCSF Benioff.

It was through this very generous gift for my daughter Resie, diagnosed with leukemia, that I met Brigit. I am in awe of her strength and courage. Scottie no doubt inherited these qualities from her and his dad, Brian — thinking of others despite his own valiant cancer fight.

Why do you feel this mom deserves the spotlight?

When we received our beautiful and thoughtful basket from Brigit and Scottie's Gift Foundation, we were astounded by such generosity. Brigit writes, "Every child battling cancer deserves to feel extra love. Scott knew that." We felt this extra love and Brigit deserves this reciprocation of love and the spotlight, especially for continuously giving even after Scottie passed in March 2018.

Please help Brigit in their goal of giving gift baskets to all newly-diagnosed pediatric cancer patients being treated at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and learn more about gift baskets and how to help these special kids, sign up for future newsletters or contact at hello@scottiesgift.org and contribute by clicking the "Make A Difference Button." Thank you, Brigit! How you've touched our lives!

Happy Mother's Day to Brigit Kienhofer, and thank you for all you do!
