Pleasanton Restaurant Has Best Fries In Bay Area: Mercury News

The Mercury News selected a Pleasanton classic as one of the 11 best spots for French fries in the region.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Mercury News named Bob’s Giant Burgers as one of the 11 best spots for french fries in the Bay Area.

“It’s an old-school burger-and-shake joint, the kind that once drew hot rods filled with giggly high school and college kids back in the ’50s and ’60s,” the paper said. “It’s still a popular spot [where] quick-bite aficionados can grab to-go orders or enjoy a sunny lunch inside or out on the patio.”

The paper praised Bob’s bacon mushroom Swiss hamburger, BLTs, corn dogs, Fruity Pebbles milkshakes, and of course, its Philly Fries. The fries are topped with a mix of chopped-up burger and thinly-sliced Philly-style steak, with melted Swiss cheese on top.

Bob’s was founded by Robert Lamont Jacobs in the early 60s, and as noted, its vibe hasn’t changed much since then. At its height, the chain boasted five locations, but now just the Pleasanton location is left, and is still run by the Jacobs family.

The restaurant is located at 4223 1st Street and is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 925-846-4657 or visit their Facebook page for more information.
