UPDATE: Police Investigating Suspicious Death

A man's body was found Monday morning along an old railroad easement.

UPDATE: Sgt. Jim Knox of the Pleasanton Police Department said that there is a tentative identification for a man found dead Monday morning south of Valley Avenue and east of Case Avenue.

Knox said the name has not been released because police have yet to notify next of kin. An autopsy was performed Wednesday.

FEB. 21: Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man whose body was found Monday morning along an old railroad easement.

The body was discovered about 7:20 a.m. at the foot of an embankment south of Valley Avenue and east of Case Avenue, police said. The death is being investigated as suspicious.

The victim was a white man in his late 40s or early 50s, mostly bald with thinning gray hair, police said.

He was between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighed 250 to 260 pounds. He was wearing gray shorts, a blue long-sleeved sweatshirt and tennis shoes at the time of his death.

There was no identification on the body and police had not identified the man as of Monday evening.

Officials said he appears to have been walking down the railway easement and
might have been heading home from Raley's Supermarket. He might have been homeless and had an encampment nearby, police said.
