PLEASANTON, CA — The Tri-Valley’s first entirely self-service gift store opened at 310 Main Street in Pleasanton. At ShopConsciously, guests can purchase a number of handmade, artisan products through a self-service checkout kiosk. Guests can select and pay for their items through a kiosk similar to an iPad. Staff are on site during busier hours, but when they’re not, guests can scan a QR code to video call staff through Instagram Live. The shop is also monitored by 24/7 video surveillance.

Guests can select a number of gifts handmade by women artisans in Africa through ShopConsciously’s nonprofit sister organization, Women Enabled Enterprises. The nonprofit works in Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa to transform waste like recycled glass, plastic bottles, leather, and tires into products like beaded earrings, ottomans, and woven baskets. Items range from $9.99 to $79.

The self-serve relaunch kicked off Friday, and community specials and giveaways will take place throughout the weekend.
