PLEASANTON, CA — Valerie Arkin, a Pleasanton council member since 2020, announced her re-election campaign to represent Pleasanton’s District 2. Arkin joins Jack Balch and Karla Brown as current Pleasanton council members who have announced their candidacy.

“My top priority is to ensure that Pleasanton remains an outstanding place to live, work, and raise a family,” she said in a statement. “I always put the concerns of Pleasanton residents and businesses first, in every decision.”

Arkin is a 31-year Pleasanton resident who served 12 years on the school board before she was elected to the Pleasanton City Council. She currently serves on the City/PUSD Liaison Committee.

Arkin listed public safety as one her top priorities. She voted in favor of the city’s alternative mental health response team, the purchase of a crime scene investigation vehicle required for collecting and processing evidence, and a police command vehicle for natural disasters.

She also advocates for smart growth policies to address state housing mandates. “New housing should fit the surrounding areas, whenever legally possible,” she said. “I have advocated for less high-density housing, especially in our historic downtown. I look forward to a second term to continue the thoughtful and creative planning required to meet these state housing mandates, while protecting Pleasanton neighborhoods.”
