Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.
This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Ramona. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.
Barbwire At The Barn
When: Friday, May 24 - 9:00 p.m.
Where: The Barn, 344 Main St., Ramona, CA 92065
What: Local country band Barbwire will bring their musical stylings to The Barn, promising a rollicking good time. Enjoy a mix of classic and contemporary country hits as you dine.

Julian Rocks Gem Show
When: Saturday, May 25 - Monday, May 27 - 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (Monday show ends at 5:00 p.m.)
Where: Julian Town Hall, 2129 Main St., Julian, CA 92036
What: Down the road in Julian, this show will feature fine minerals, gems and crystals, as well as crafts and gifts from local artists and vendors. There will also be a raffle to benefit Julian Elementary’s Pathways garden program.
Wildcrafting: Wild And Natural Spa Day
When: Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 - 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Where: VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center, 22850 Volcan Rd./4002 Farmer Rd., Julian, CA 92036
What: Explore the Volcan Mountain Nature Center to collect materials to create your own nature-inspired beauty products. Attendees will craft wild mountain soap, horsetail raw sugar scrub and wild herbal bath salts, all while sipping on handmade pine needle lemon tea. Workshops cost $25 per person; attendees are asked to arrive between 9:45-9:55 a.m.

17th Annual Pancake Festival
When: Monday, May 27 - 8:00 a.m.
Where: Webb Lake Park, 11666 Avena Pl., San Diego, CA 92128
What: Head over to Webb Lake Park in nearby Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) for a pancake breakfast, including sausage, fruit, juice, yogurt and coffee. Breakfast tickets are $15 (free for children under 3, as well as veterans and active duty military). The breakfast will be followed by the Veterans Memorial Association’s Ceremony at 11:00 a.m.
