'Making A Huge Difference' In Rancho Santa Margarita: Star Student

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Brooke Walker has a made a huge difference in the community. Since her traumatic spinal surgery, she has spent hours fundraising for CHOC hospital to ensure scoliosis patients get special scoliosis bears. Brooke mentors scoliosis patients both locally in Orange County and nationwide, she is an advocate at her high school where she has provided educational pamphlets to students, has spoken at local Rotary meetings and was appointed the Leader for the Curvy Girls OC Chapter. Brooke was named the OC Hero of Parenting Magazine, Hero of the Week by Helpful Honda and was selected to be interviewed by two radio stations so that she is able tell he story and share how she can further support the community and those who are suffering with Scoliosis. Brooke has managed all this while maintaining straight As in honors and AP courses, working part time and performing in an elite choir and a nationally ranked acapella group.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

She is selfless and truly wants to make a difference.
