Redondo Beach High Schooler Arrested For Bringing Gun To School: RBPD

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday morning for bringing a gun to school with him at Redondo Union High School, police said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday morning for bringing a gun to school with him at Redondo Union High School, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Officers received a report of a student in possession of a weapon at the high school at about 10:30 a.m. and immediately launched an investigation, officials said. In coordination with school officials, the student was immediately detained and the gun was recovered.

"No one was injured during this incident, and no evidence of a threat or plan for violence has been discovered during the initial investigation. At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident involving only the student who has been arrested," RBPD said in a statement.

Law enforcement is still investigating how the boy obtained the gun and additional information related to the incident.

The teen was transported to the Redondo Beach Police Department on suspicion of juvenile in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a high-capacity magazine, carrying a loaded firearm in public and possession of an unregistered loaded firearm.

Authorities said the case will be prepared by investigators and forwarded to the Los Angeles County Probation Department for consideration of filing charges.

"The Redondo Beach Police Department maintains a close working relationship with the Redondo Beach Unified School District (RBUSD) and will coordinate on matters related to the future status of the arrested student," RBPD said.

Police have deployed additional resources and increased their presence around Redondo Union High School as well as other schools in the school district in response to the incident.
