Adams Hosts Health, Wellness Fair

Adams Middle School in North Redondo Beach hosts its first-ever Health and Wellness Fair.

Despite the rainy forecast, a "steady flow of people" visited the Health and Wellness Fair held Saturday at , according to Principal Anthony Taranto.

The event, which was organized by the school's PTSA organization with help from Vitality City and the Beach Cities Health District, was intended to help educate the community and students about healthy living and spark a conversation about health and fitness.

"It's turned out well," Taranto told Patch. "I'm very, very thrilled."

Participating organizations offered free eye exams and posture analyses, among others, while vendors sold herb-infused balsamic vinegar and pocket-sized first aid kits.

Dancers from Dance 1, a studio in North Redondo Beach, entertained attendees.

Because of the previous night's rain, the event was moved into the cafeteria, where it was a little warmer and definitely drier.

"The rain worked to our advantage in this case," Taranto said.

He told Patch that he's hoping to repeat the event during the next school year, and Adams PTSA President Sandy Quan agreed.

"Hopefully it will grow every year," Quan said.

Attendee and Vitality City volunteer Connie Hatt, a retired school nurse, said the fair provided lots of good information.

"Each year that we do things [like the fair] … the word of mouth is going to get out" and the number of attendees will grow, she said.
