Beach Cities Walk To End Alzheimer's Comes To Hermosa Beach

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — The California Southland Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association's next walk of the season will be the Beach Cities Walk to End Alzheimer's in Hermosa Beach on Saturday.

The walk is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care support and research. The funds raised at the Hermosa Beach walk will help the Alzheimer's Association serve more people and their caregivers in the community.

"In California alone, there are more than 690,000 people living with Alzheimer’s and 1.12 million family caregivers," the association said in a statement. "Someone develops Alzheimer’s in this country every 65 seconds, and more than 6 million Americans 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia."

Last year's event raised nearly $1.7 million and had nearly 6,700 participants across the 13 walks, officials said.

Participants in the walk will honor those affected by the disease with the Promise Garden ceremony, an experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against Alzheimer's. People will be able to add different colors of flowers to the garden that signify their connection and personal reasons to end the disease.

The walk will take place on Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza at 1 Pier Ave.

There is no registration fee to enter the walk, but participants who raise over $100 will receive a walk t-shirt. To register or donate visit www.alz.org/walk.
