Blotter: Burglaries, Brief Pursuit

Officers from the Redondo Beach Police Department dealt with multiple incidents between Feb. 6 and earlier this week, according to the Recent Law Enforcement Events news release and the Part I crime re-cap.

Would-be robber threatens cashier with bomb

Police are searching for a man who walked into a Riviera Village business Monday and demanded money from the cash register.

According to police reports, the man told the cashier that he had a bomb; however, he appears to have left empty-handed as the store did not report a loss.

The culprit is described as a 30- to 40-year-old white male who stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 180-190 pounds.

Shoplifting arrest

Redondo Beach police officers arrested James Campos on suspicion of shoplifting items from Kohls on Sunday, authorities said.

Police recovered the stolen items.

Residential burglaries

A thief stole a bike and some sporting equipment from an open garage on the 100 block of Avenue G sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Stolen items include a bowling bag and ball, a pair of shoes, golf clubs and roller blades.

Also in South Redondo Beach, someone cut a lock on a garage door in the 500 block of South Francisca Avenue and broke in, according to police. No loss was reported.

Vehicle burglaries

Police are searching for the person who used a pry tool to break into at least one vehicle in the 400 block of South Pacific Coast Highway overnight Saturday.

According to police reports, the person used a pry tool to break into a locked UNK Fleetwood Mallard Trailer. Once inside, the burglar took what police described as "miscellaneous property" and discovered keys to a 2001 Mercedes, which he or she also burglarized.

The thief took a laptop computer, a suitcase and a watch, police said.

At about the same time, someone tried to use a pry tool to break into a locked vehicle and entered an unlocked vehicle nearby. The thief stole some vacuum cups, police said.

Between Saturday and Sunday morning, a burglar broke into a 2012 Buick Enclave in the 2400 block of Sebald Ave. and stole cash, a fanny pack and a Catholic medallion, police said.

Someone also broke into a 1993 Saturn in the 2900 block of Johnston Lane and stole a camera, tools, a pair of sandals and metal figurines, police said.

Domestic violence call

Redondo Beach police officers arrested a man on suspicion of domestic-violence related charges at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Officers received a radio call warning of a man kicking a woman, who was screaming for help, police said. When they responded to the call, officers heard screaming inside a house in the 1800 block of Ripley Avenue.

Police broke down the door and detained both the man and the woman. The man was arrested.

Hermosa pursuit ends in Redondo

Hermosa Beach Police Department units ventured into Redondo Beach last Friday afternoon during a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in front of Jefferson Elementary School.

The driver jumped out of the car while it was still in gear and ran through the school, police said. The car crashed into a gate and came to rest against a chain link fence.

Police detained the vehicle's passenger, who was uninjured, but were unable to locate the driver.
