Celebrate Memorial Day in Redondo Beach

Memorial Day is a time to remember the fallen, and the city of Redondo Beach will commemorate the holiday with a at the memorial next to the .
The service, which will begin at 1 p.m., will include "reflection and remembrance, music, commentary and honors to all those members of the armed forces who paid the ultimate sacrifice in our nation's wars," according to a news release from the Redondo beach Veterans Memorial Task Force.
Assemblywoman Betsy Butler and Under Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs Larry Gonzales will speak at the ceremony, which will also include music from the Band and the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society Pipes and Band.

The Redondo Union Marine Corps Junior ROTC participants will also be honored at the ceremony.
After the service, the will host a barbecue in the parking lot south of the lodge and next to the park. While veterans and members of the military can receive a free lunch, others are asked for a $5 donation.

As a reminder, Redondo Beach city offices and the and will all be closed Monday in honor of the holiday, as will local post offices.
Trash collection will be delayed one day due to Memorial Day, according to a notice posted on the city's website. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping Monday; the regular street-sweeping schedule will resume Tuesday.
