City Drops to 7th in Water Challenge

Redondo Beach drops a spot in its division in the challenge, which asks residents to pledge to conserve water and reduce waste.

Redondo Beach dropped a spot in the Wyland Foundation's National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation over the last two weeks, according to rankings posted on the challenge website.

Right now, Redondo Beach ranks seventh of all the participating cities in the western region with populations between 30,000 and 100,000; on April 8, the city ranked sixth.

Aliso Viejo currently holds the No. 1 slot in the same division, followed by Newport Beach; Bremerton, Wash.; Redmond, Ore.; Montrose, Colo.; and Lacey, Wash. (See complete rankings below.)

In the western division for cities with populations between 5,000 and 30,000, neighboring Hermosa Beach ranks first.

The rankings are based upon the percentage of residents who take a pledge during the month of April to conserve water and reduce waste. Residents of the No. 1-ranked cities will be eligible to win a Toyota Prius C Hybrid, a Rain Bird custom-designed sprinkler system, a Sterling water-saving toilet, a Waterpik Eco-Flow shower head or a Lowe's gift card.
