City Pledges $10K to Fix Baseball Field

The Redondo Beach Little League has already spent $20,000 to fix the uneven field in Dominguez Park. The field is built on top of an unstable landfill.

Redondo Beach will spend $10,000 to upgrade the Little League baseball field at , the City Council decided unanimously at its meeting last Tuesday.

The park, which is one of the homes of the Redondo Beach Little League, was established on top of an old landfill. As the trash underneath the park decays, the land shifts, causing portions of the once-level baseball fields to sink.

"This is an ongoing problem," said Councilman Pat Aust, whose District 3 includes Dominguez Park. "This park was built on the city's old dump, so this is a landfill. The landfill was there from 1936-1966."
