Diels Installed as Head of Regional Government Association

Councilman Steve Diels is now the president of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities.

Redondo Beach Councilman Steve Diels was installed as president of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities on Aug. 2 at Northrop Grumman, according to a news release from the city of Redondo Beach.

Diels, who represents District No. 4 in North Redondo Beach, told attending officials that he wanted to "move the balance of power south," noting that much of the activity at the state level is focused on Northern California.

"Being involved in regional issues is one of the most rewarding and important aspects of local government," the city said in the news release. "Diels has always taken this task seriously, and now applies that leadership to effect regional and statewide change."

Diels will replace outgoing President Bruce Barrows, the mayor pro tem of Cerritos, as president of the division.
