Diner Leaves Anti-Immigration Note In Place of Tip

A note left on the receipt where the tip would go, read, "Tip for U.S. Citizens Only." The offensive remark is getting a ton of attention.


A waitress at Bamboo Thai Bistro in Redondo Beach thought she’d done something wrong upon first seeing that a customer left her no tip.

But, as she soon found out, the lack of a tip wasn’t because she’d done something wrong: It was due to her ethnicity.

Now, what began as an offensive message -- the words “Tips for U.S. Citizens Only” where a dollar amount would go on a dining receipt -- has been blasted all over social media, the writer revealed as Jason Paul Naglid, apparently of Los Angeles, according to the Daily Breeze.

The incident happened last Wednesday. LAist.com reports that the server, who is Asian, is legally in the U.S., working under a visa.

Said Adison, another worker at the restaurant, “Keep it to yourself! It doesn’t... it doesn’t help anything when you say something like that to someone,” NBC4 reported.
