Dispose of Hazardous Waste, Old Documents at Event

Redondo Beach is hosting a community shred day on Saturday.

The city of Redondo Beach will host another community shred day and household hazardous waste collection event Saturday at the .

The event, which is open to Redondo Beach residents only, will last from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proof of residency is required to participate.

American Shredding Company will shred old files and personal papers onsite at the event. There's no limit on the amount of paper residents can bring for shredding.

Residents who want to dispose of household hazardous waste should bring their items in a sturdy box, preferably in the original labeled containers. Items should not be mixed together, and residents should be prepared to leave their containers and boxes.

Household hazardous waste includes any product labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, combustible or irritant, such as used motor oil and oil filters, brake fluid, pain, paint thinner, pesticides and car batteries. The event will also accept universal waste, including household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermostats, needle syringes and expired medications.

Explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, household trash, tires and bulky items—including refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, sofas and tables—will not be accepted. People who have bulky items can schedule a pickup with Athens Services by calling 888-336-6100.

Residents can bring a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip. Business waste will not be accepted.
